Lift for Pride 2025

Lift for Pride 2025

What is Lift for Pride?

Lift For Pride is a deadlift-only powerlifting event that celebrates inclusivity and diversity in sports.

Unlike traditional powerlifting events and competitions, Lift for Pride has eliminated weight classes and gender categorizations so that all gender identities and all weight classes lift together.

Why Lift for Pride?

Fitness spaces are often spaces that are unwelcoming, uncomfortable, and unsafe for folks in historically marginalized bodies.

But ALL folks deserve to have access to safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces for movement and all aspects of life.

The mission of this event is to create safer, welcoming, and affirming spaces for folks who have historically been left out of or felt unsafe in fitness and powerlifting spaces.

We will lift together and raise funds for local LQBTQIA+ affirming organizations in a space that is welcoming and safer for all genders and bodies to experience the empowerment and community of sport.

Funds raised from this inclusive, welcoming and affirming space for athletes of all cultural and racial backgrounds, genders, sexual orientation, body size, age, and abilities event will provide local Boston agencies with funds to support LQBTQIA+ folks affirming support and programs as well as help folks who have experienced trauma heal and build resilience through weightlifting.

Who Are We Raising Funds For?

We will be announcing who we are raising funds for for the 2025 event when registration opens in spring of 2025!

In 2024, we are raised money for these two Boston area organizations:

Queer Gym Pop Up: The Queer Gym Pop Up is a powerful movement space where we celebrate being in our skin, acknowledging all of who we are.  This space was created to continually generate positivity, empowerment, and love! The Queer Gym Pop Up space provides two full body workouts, with a collective of amazing coaches. This is a donation-based space.

Trans Resistance MA: Trans Resistance MA is a nonprofit transgender advocacy organization based in Boston, MA. We advocate for the safety, joy, and liberation of Trans, Queer, Black, Indigenous People of Color (TQBIPOC), and organize an annual March & Festival in June that returns to the authentic origins of pride.

Organized and Hosted by:

coach justice , Michelle Farrell & hosted by Jess McCutcheon - Schour, owner of Ethos Fitness + Performance

There is metered parking available along Albany, Malden and Wareham Street. There is also 2 hour visitor parking on nearby streets. Please be sure to read the signs and note that street cleaning is on Thursdays March 1-Dec. 31st.

There is a lot directly behind the gym that is $10 for 2 hours. Please do not park without paying as you may be towed.

Paid parking is available for $2.50/hour at the GTI lot located under the I-93 overpass, directly across the street from Rotch Playground (Randolph Street) - about a 5 minute walk from our facility.

  • We are so excited for you to have your first experience at Lift for Pride! Unlike traditional powerlifting meets, this event is deadlift only and weight classes and gender categorizations have been eliminated.

Lifts will be organized into “flights,” or groups of about 12-15 people lifting similar weights in the order of weight attempt selection (this is why we ask for your first lift attempt in the registration form!)

Flights will also be organized by lightest attempt to heaviest attempt.

After each of your lifts, you will indicate to us the weight of your next attempt.

You will have 3 lift opportunities!

All gender identities and all weight classes lift together.

  • Bring your excitement and enthusiasm and anything that will feel supportive for you for the day!

You might want extra clothes to change into before or after lifting.

Please bring a water bottle - there is a water cooler to refill but no cups.

A hand towel could be useful for you after lifts!

We will have some small snacks on hand for lifters. Please feel free to bring your own snacks!

  • 8:00 am: Doors open with check ins

    9:00 am: Warm ups commence

10:00 am: First lift officially commences at 10:00

2:00 pm: We plan to be wrapped up for the day no later than 2:00 pm

We will be organized into 3 flights, A, B, and C.

Flight A will kick us off and each lifter in flight A will cycle through and do their 3 lifts. Then, flight B, then flight C.

You will indicate your estimation of the weight of your first lift on the registration form so we can organize the flights.

We estimate about an hour (depending on how many lifters in a flight) for each flight with a 15 minute intermission between flights

At the end of all the lifts, we’ll have time for celebrating together.
